KENYA WEDDINGS
CONFIRMATION OF DOWRY
The bride and groom introduce the two families dowry is discussed and the agreement given. The two families drink together to celebrate their new found relationship.
PRE-WEDDING NIGHT
The Groom is escorted by his spokesperson and the chosen Aunties leave for the Bride’s village to take the Bride’s wedding attire, jewelry and gifts for the Bride’s parents for the approval by the Bride’s Aunties. Once approved, then the Bride’s parent in front of the two families give their blessings to the couple as an indication of accepting the Groom as their son. While this is going on there is a lot of merry making as the two groups try to outshine one another in songs of praise and poetry. Thereafter, the Groom and his party leave for their village.
WEDDDING DAY
An hour before the wedding Ceremony, the Groom’s Aunties and Uncles proceed to the bride’s home but alas! The contract is not yet complete and there is a toke n of appreciation to be given to the Bride’s Aunties in order to allow them to leave. At this juncture negotiations start all over again between the two groups in form of songs and poetry. The token is given and the entire party proceeds to the venue of the wedding.
